The day had been a long one.
Charlie inserted the key into the door of his apartment and stepped inside, his weariness finally catching up with him. It came in waves, a tidal flow dictated by the moon. An action, a look, a color would build, rising, cresting and then crashing, into foam. It always ended in that whispered hiss of foam.
Most of the boys feared her and most of the girls disliked her. "She's too perfect," the voices swelled. "She's stuck up. She never talks to anyone." There was something different about her, something more that they couldn't quite figure out.
